ARTESIA — An Artesia man is facing multiple charges after Artesia police officers responded to a shots-fired call early Sunday morning.
According to APD records, officers were called to a shots-fired case Sunday at 1:14 a.m. at 511 N. Seventh St.
APD commander Lindell Smith said two people were discovered with gunshot wounds. One victim was shot in the groin and the other was shot in the foot.
He said names aren’t being released at this time, the victim who was shot in the groin was transported to Lubbock and is expected to be OK. The one who was shot in the foot was treated and released from Artesia General Hospital.
Commander Smith said Arturo D. Durate was arrested late Sunday night after a stand off with officers.
The suspect has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated battery inflicting bodily harm or death/firearm and revocation of release, according to APD records.
Commander Smith added the suspect is currently at the Eddy County Detention Center in Carlsbad.
