The body of man has been discovered southeast of Roswell, and authorities believe it is possible that it could be a man reported missing last week.
The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office said that the body of an adult man was found Thursday afternoon in a tree on a farm southeast of East Brasher Road and South Atkinson Avenue.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the body about 15 feet above the ground in a tree. The Sheriff’s Office statement indicates that the man appeared to have been dead for a few days.
“We believe the person climbed the tree for unknown reasons and was either injured by falling from higher up the tree or was overcome by exhaustion or both. The body was in a very difficult position which complicated recovery,” the statement said.
The Sheriff’s Office statement indicates that there has been no identification of the body, but authorities also located a vehicle several days ago about a mile away that belongs to Sergio Alexander Salas, 30, who was reported missing by his mother June 2.
According to the Roswell Police Department, which received the missing person’s report, Salas was last seen May 25 at his home on East Morningside Drive in east Roswell. The mother told police that she had seen her son driving away in his black pickup.
The Sheriff’s Office indicated that the body will be sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy.
