Suspect Apprehended After Shots Fired at Berrendo Middle School Shooting

The Record has confirmed that the shooter was a juvenile. The incident occurred in the school’s gymnasium between 7 and 8 a.m.

A 14-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center for treatment. The boy has been taken to University Hospital in Lubbock and the girl is in transit to the hospital.
A student was shot in the face, according to two witnesses. One student died, according to two other witnesses.
New Mexico State Police are investigating the event and have not yet provided an official statement.

The suspect is in custody.
