Lee Roy White, age 93, a true cowboy, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017. A tribute of Lee Roy’s life may be found at www.andersonbethany.com where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for his family.
He was born on June 10, 1923, in Quanah, Texas, to Charlie E. and Nellie Samantha White. He moved to Roswell, New Mexico, in the ‘30s. He joined the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a Waist Gunner on a B17 and flew 24 missions over Germany.
After he came back from WWII, he worked at the New Mexico Military Institute taking care of their horses. During his life, he worked at El Paso Natural Gas, the Post Office and owned two (2) Service Stations.
He was a Cowboy in the true sense, working on several ranches around Chaves County. He retired from the New Mexico Livestock Board on June 30, 1988.
Preceding Lee Roy in death were his parents, wife, Catherine; grandsons: Jason White, Joseph Fouratt; brothers: Carl, Bud, CE, Thurman; and sister, Juanita Nicholas.
Those left to carry on his legacy are his children: Jimmy White of Bosque Farms, New Mexico, Evelyn Michelle of Phoenix, Arizona, Jan Callaway (David) of Roswell, New Mexico; his stepchildren: JoAnn Bullard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Connie Sykes of Minnesota, David Pitts of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was blessed with 14 beautiful grandchildren: Bryan White, Mark White, Ryan Michell, Kris Michell, Travis Smith, Kaylee Callaway, Ally Davis, Justin Bullard, Charlie Mask, Kyle Sykes, Derek Sykes, Kate Sykes, Cody Pitts, Sam Pitts; 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way.
He was also survived by his companion, Glynn Gregory of Rowell, New Mexico. Also, Lee Roy’s sister-in-law, Johnnie White of Hagerman, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Pinon for the many years he took care of our dad, Lee Roy. Thank you to Dr. Abajar for his care of Lee Roy. We appreciate the great care he received from Dr. Gala and the medical staff at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. A Special Thank You to all the staff at Casa Maria for taking care of Cowboy.
The services will be held at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 S. Main St., Roswell, New Mexico, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Those chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are: Charlie Mask, Cody Pitts, Sam Pitts, and Bill Gregory.
Pallbearers are: Bryan White, Mark White, Ryan Michell, Travis Smith, Justin Ballard and Kris Michell.
Lee Roy was known by many and loved by all.
