Earle A. Garlinger, 90, of Bentonville, Arkansas and formerly of Roswell, NM, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the South Park Cemetery. Military honors rendered by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
He was born July 25, 1926 in Colton, California to the late John Jackson Garlinger, Sr. and Lois Arlecia Schooler Garlinger. At the age of 15, he began his first career, serving his country in WWII in the Army Air Corp, then the US Air Force before retiring with 21 years of service. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in his leg and back during the Battle of the Bulge. His second retirement was from a career as an electrician for Hughes Helicopters. In earlier years, he enjoyed raising a vegetable garden but his interest evolved into not just growing, but breeding orchids. Each one was numbered and he kept detailed records of each orchid. He loved watching old classics on the Western channel and enjoyed telling stories of the places he was stationed. He was a kind, gentle, do-it-yourself kind of guy, doing his own home and vehicle repair.
Earle was the loving husband of Madlyn Garlinger who preceded him. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded by his son, Earle Anthony Garlinger; two brothers, John J. Garlinger, Jr. and George Garlinger and his sister, Marjorie Watson.
He is survived by his nephews, George, Chuck, Bob and David Garlinger; his nieces, Carol Sutt, Heidi Scott, Kathy Wroten and Suzy Byers.
Arrangements are under the care of Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville, Arkansas and LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Roswell, New Mexico. Online condolences can be made at CallisonLough.com and lagronefuneralchapels.com
