RISD offers Seamless Summer Food Program

The Roswell Independent School District announced its sponsorship of the USDA Food Program, Seamless Summer Food Program. Persons interested in receiving more information should contact the food service director, Lyman Graham, at 300 N. Kentucky Ave., or by phone at 575-637-3339.
Lunches will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Roswell Industrial Air Center/Base Pool; at Alice Reischman-Smith Park, which is also at the RIAC; Cahoon Park; Fifth Street Park; Carpenter Park; Poe Corn Park; Spring River Park; the Adult Center and the Boys and Girls Club. The Adult Center and the Boys and Girls Club will also offer breakfast at 8 a.m.
The New Mexico School Nutrition Association has awarded Healthy Kids Chaves County the Friendship Award. Paula Camp, Becky Joyce and Tamara Fresquez with Healthy Kids Chaves County have greatly supported the students of Roswell by teaming up with us to promote healthy eating, exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy Kids Chaves County heads up fruit and vegetable tasting in the schools throughout the year. The Healthy Kids Chaves County team is also assisting in updating local wellness policies in Chaves County. In the summer, Healthy Kids Chaves County sponsor and conduct special activities at each summer lunch site for the summer months.
The award was also given to Chris Brooks and The Hobbit of 94.9 the Country Giant. The radio personalities support the students of Roswell by providing awareness to our programs, positive support to our food services by having cafeteria representatives as guests on their morning show and posting information and schedules to their web site.
Michelle Jerome was awarded manager of the year. For the past three years, Jerome has managed the Berrendo Middle School Cafeteria. She has increased participation by trying new recipes, conducting taste testing and getting to know the students and their likes and dislikes.
“Dedicated cafeteria manager’s work tirelessly to support initiatives to ensure students have access to healthy meals and improve their dining experience,” said Lyman Graham, Director of Food Services for the RISD.
