The New Mexico Department of Transportation will begin a project Monday to chip seal pavement on various roadways in Eddy County.
A District Two chip seal crew will begin work Monday along NM 357 near Artesia.
The NMDOT said drivers may encounter flaggers where work is being performed, as well as brief, intermittent lane closures.
Additional routes scheduled for chip seal work in Eddy County include NM 229, NM 360, NM 216, NM 524, NM 31 and NM 243.
Chip sealing is a surface treatment on the pavement in an effort to preserve the life of the pavement surface by sealing out moisture, which can cause damage to pavement.
The NMDOT asked drivers to please drive safely through work zones.
