Roswell police have arrested a man that they’ve been searching for since May 27.
Tyler C. Mazac, 24, of West McGaffey Street, is accused of shooting another local man. He was arrested by Roswell police Friday night, police spokesman Todd Wildermuth said.
A Roswell police officer spotted Mazac entering an apartment in the 1200 block of West McGaffey Street around 7 p.m., Wildermuth said. Mazac tried to flee through the property behind the apartment, but was quickly apprehended, according to Wildermuth.
Mazac was arrested on a warrant issued in connection with the shooting of a 33-year-old man. That incident occurred at about 1 a.m. May 27 at a residence in the 1300 block of North Maple Street.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Chaves County Magistrate Court, police state that two witnesses allegedly observed an argument outside the victim’s house between the suspect and the victim. They heard a “pop” and observed a man they identified as Mazac fleeing. The “pop” sound concerned one of the witnesses, leading him inside the victim’s house. There he found the victim lying on his side with a wound to his neck.
The victim was transported to a Roswell hospital and later to a hospital in another city, according to Wildermuth, who said the man’s current condition is unknown at this time.
According to a Chaves County Detention Center officer, Mazac is being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond for the charge of aggravated battery, causing great bodily harm, and a $500 cash or surety bond for a possession of marijuana charge.
