Kelly Jo Leflar was born on April 10, 1953 in Knox City, TX to Mary Imogene Morton-Leflar and James Welton Leflar. She unexpectedly left this world on Sunday, June 4, 2017, leaving a profound void in the many lives she touched; joining her loving parents, whom we lost respectively in 2008 and 2009.
She is survived by her two sons, Austin Booe of Roswell, NM. and Jared Putnam of San Antonio, TX. and one grandson, Jace Putnam also of San Antonio, TX. Also, surviving her are two brothers, Terry Leflar of Athens, TX. and Buddy Loynd of Arlington, TX. and one sister, Sammye Leflar of Roswell, NM. She also leaves behind four beloved doggies, Smoky, Dory, Sebastian and Oni, all who were like children to her.
Kelly spent her adolescent years growing up and attending school in Munday, TX., a place she loved and always called “home” no matter where she lived. She lived in a variety of different places throughout her adult life but spent her last 18 years working and residing in Roswell, NM.
Throughout the years, she performed several different jobs, all of which she excelled at. She performed property management for a variety of years in Texas, to include a short time in Roswell, until she became employed with New Mexico Eastern Regional Housing Authority, spending 13 years in various roles. She spent her last few years at the Housing Authority as the Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator. She helped individuals transition from receiving assistance, becoming self-sufficient in supporting their families, obtaining full time employment and becoming proud owners of homes. All of this was accomplished through education and programs designed to teach self-sufficiency. This work was very rewarding to Kelly, as she took pride in assisting people to accomplish their goals. She left the Housing Authority in 2013 and became employed by Yes Housing as Service Coordinator for the elderly and disabled. She adored her clients, as they adored her, assisting them with their needs with the utmost love and dignity. She often went to check on them on weekends during her personal time off and make sure they had what they needed, as well as making them feel loved. She had a God given gift of making each life that she touched feel significant.
She affected the lives of many people she met in a unique and mystical way that some never quite understood; but the ones who did, all came away knowing in a sagacious way, that they had been touched by an angel. She had a strong love of animals and animal rights and devoted much of her time trying to make this world a better place for animals to exist.
Yes Housing will be hosting their own celebration of life for Kelly at their Wildwood property where Kelly officed in Roswell at noon on Thursday, June 15, 2017 specifically for her clients and co-workers.
Kelly’s memorial services will be held in Munday, TX where family and friends will gather to remember and honor her. The time will be announced once arrangements are finalized.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. An online registry can be accessed at ballardfuneralhome.com.
