Ceremony marks transfer of park in Angel Fire

Gov. Susana Martinez bows her head during a Fourth of July ceremony transferring the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park in Angel Fire from the New Mexico State Parks Department to the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services. State Rep. Bob Wooley of Roswell is shown to her right. Wooley was among those who helped restore the Huey helicopter on display at the memorial. The transfer of the memorial was requested by organizations in the state representing veterans, indicating their belief that the veterans department has the necessary expertise to safeguard and manage the memorial. Gov. Martinez signed the bill authorizing the transfer earlier this year. The memorial was built in honor of Marine First Lt. David Westphall by his parents after he was killed in Vietnam. They later donated it to the state. (Submitted Photo)
