Train crash causes dust-up at gravel pit

A freight train collided with a dump truck Monday afternoon along Clovis Highway, near the Waide Sand & Gravel Co. gravel pit. According to the Roswell Police Department, the BNSF train collided with the truck at 2:27 p.m. There were only minor injuries at the scene, and the person with injuries declined medical treatment. Chaves County sheriff deputies and New Mexico State Police responded to the incident at around 2:35 p.m. after dispatchers received multiple 911 calls in reference to the train collision. New Mexico State Police spokesman Carl Christensen confirmed no one was transported for injuries. He said the accident did not involve hazardous materials.
