Victim accidentally shot in neck at underage party

Police said a man was shot in the neck during an underage party early Saturday.

The shooting occurred at about midnight Saturday in the 900 block of Davidson Drive.
Although the Roswell Police Department said the the shooting appears to be accidental, it is being investigated as a criminal act.
Officers were dispatched to the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center early Saturday where the victim was dropped off and later flown to a Lubbock hospital due to injuries. No further information was available as of press time Monday night on the victim’s condition.

Officers also responded to the area of South Union Avenue and Davidson Drive, near the location of the shooting incident. Police observed blood in the driveway of the residence in the 900 block of Davidson Drive, where they later learned that the individuals involved were having an underage party and were playing beer pong.
“During the party, the victim was shot in the neck by another person at the party,” said RPD officer Richard Romero. “At this point charges are pending against the suspect whom is a juvenile.”
Led by RPD detective Dylan Thomas, the case remains under investigation.
