William Bowden Corn, devoted husband, beloved father and a great friend to many, celebrated his final departure on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at home with his family by his side. It was a beautiful morning, what Bill would have called a “severe clear,” a perfect day for flying. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, 9 a.m. at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 South Main, Roswell, NM 88201. The Funeral Service will follow visitation at 10 a.m. at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at General Douglas L. McBride Veterans Cemetery, Roswell, NM. A tribute of Bill’s life may be found at andersonbethany.com where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for his family.

Bill was born on April 16, 1936, in Roswell, NM, to Fred B. and Beatrice Hazel (Knight) Corn. He was a lifelong rancher on the Salt Creek, Northwest of Roswell. Bill loved his country, was proud of his military service and shared a special bond with his Army Reserve brothers. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer during his many years of service. As Bill would say, “Just call me Super Chief.” Bill took pleasure in educating all about the geography of his cherished New Mexico, especially if you were flying with him. An eternal optimist, Bill loved the anticipation of a summer rain and eagerly watched any cloud that looked encouraging. Bill will be remembered for his ability to punctuate a situation with memorable wit and we will forever quote his unforgettable sayings. He was a sharp dresser and a gentleman. Bill’s greatest delight, next to his family and friends, was his lifelong love of flying. If he could fly, it was a wonderful day.
In addition to Bill’s parents, sister, Rogene Cordes; brother, Robert F. Corn; and nephew, Rodney D. Corn preceded him in death.
Surviving to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife of almost 60 years, Crystal Louise (Carman) Corn; daughters: Dr. Christa Carman Corn of Phoenix, AZ, Cheryl LeAnne Corn of Wilmington, DE; grandson, Thomas Corn of Phoenix, AZ; beloved dog, Trixie; nieces: Gloria Ann (Cordes) of Yarmouth Port, MA, Larson (Allen) of Yarmouth Port, MA, Jeanne Cordes of Costa Rica; nephew, Robert B. Corn (Nancy) of Roswell, NM; and many special friends who were life’s treasure to him. Their love is truly heartfelt by the family, and we Thank You for your friendship, support, and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing in his memory to a charitable organization of your choice.
This tribute was lovingly written in honor of Bill by his family.
