Trump’s policies will hasten US decline

We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The preamble to our Constitution is one of the most powerful and meaningful documents ever composed by man. It is the cornerstone of the foundation of our Constitution describing the purpose, aims and justification for the entire document.
A more perfect union consisting of “we the people” for the benefit of “we the people” is the focal point of the preamble and the entire Constitution. Since Ronald Reagan, our nation has drifted away from a union of “we the people” toward a nation benefiting the wealthy, corporate America and the political elites. That our current administration is trying to take us further away from the original intent and purpose of our Constitution is troubling.
Our Constitution does provide for the defense of our nation, the defense of “we the people.” However, I really don’t think a military-industrial complex supporting and protecting a vast global empire and consuming a full 50 percent of our discretionary spending budget was intended. Our military might today is several orders of magnitude greater than any other on Earth, costing more than the next 12 nations’ combined spending. All this while our infrastructure is crumbling and some 15 percent of our citizens live in poverty.

To promote the general welfare of “we the people” I think would include health care, quality education and a living wage for all working Americans. It is troubling our current administration is advocating a reduction in funding for all these basic needs of our populace.
The social and economic policies of the Republican Party are the equivalent of selling bricks from the foundation of our great mansion in order to buy golden shingles for the roof. The middle class is the foundation of our nation. This continual weakening of the foundation is leading to the destruction of our entire mansion. Our forefathers recognized that promoting the general welfare of “we the people” was vital to the blessings of liberty and to our posterity.
I am deeply troubled with the direction Donald Trump is trying to take our nation. His policies can only hasten the decline of our great nation.
