The Roswell Invaders needed Ty Geary to go deep into Wednesday’s winner-take-all Game 3 of a first-round Pecos League playoff series, and that’s just what he did, getting just enough run support along the way to earn a victory and a chance to win the Mountain Division starting today in Alpine, Texas.
Geary allowed a run in the second inning, and another in the sixth without surrendering the lead during his eight innings. He sat the Triggers down 1-2-3 in four different innings while allowing just four hits in the game.
Roswell pounded out 10 hits, but left nine runners stranded as offense was at a premium for both squads.
The Invaders tied the game in the third when Louie Martini scored on Joey Miller’s sac-fly and took the lead in the fifth on the strength of Cody Bishop’s solo home run and an Ed Reichenbach RBI-single that sent Bobby Webb across home plate after his double.
Bishop went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Reichenbach was 1-for-4 and drove in a run and Martini went 2-for-4.
With their seasons on the line, both squads played clean games, with the lone error committed by Roswell in the top of the seventh.
Austin Goss closed the game for the Invaders, allowing a single hit with two strikeouts.
The Invaders will now head back to Alpine, where the first-place Cowboys beat the Big Green Men twice in one day last Friday to win the division and take the No. 1 playoff spot.
The best-of-3 series begins tonight at Kokernot Field in Alpine, Texas with a 7 p.m. Central first pitch.
