The Roswell Invaders could only muster one late run Friday in Alpine, Texas as the host Cowboys downed the Big Green Men 8-1 in Game 2 of the best-of-3 Pecos League Mountain Division Championship Series.
Starter Mike Scimanico pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeout and five walks. Five relievers combined to pitch the final three innings.
First baseman Joey Miller, one of the top hitters in the league, hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to prevent the shutout. It was Miller’s only hit of the game.
Second baseman Bobby Webb was the only Invader with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with two strikeouts.
The Invaders and Cowboys conclude the series today in Alpine at 7 p.m. The winner will face the winner between Tucson and High Desert, who also play a winner-take-all Game 3 today for the Pacific title.
If Roswell and High Desert win, the league championship series will be played at Joe Bauman Stadium.
