Keep Roswell Beautiful is alive

This is in response to September Bosch’s letter in the Sunday edition of the newspaper regarding her concern about “Where is Keep Roswell Beautiful?”

Keep Roswell Beautiful (KRB) is alive and well, but for a number of reasons, does not have a current relationship with the present administration of the city.
KRB is a certified “Presidential Circle” affiliate with Keep America Beautiful. The organization maintains a nonprofit 501(c)(3) status and we are in good standing with the state of New Mexico Corporation Bureau.
The majority of Keep America Beautiful affiliates in New Mexico are housed in a city or county department with a coordinator with specific job duties related to litter control, recycling and beautification. Keep Roswell Beautiful has not had a coordinator, an office space, nor a place to store our cleanup items since late 2014.
When we lost the city designated coordinator, several community members worked tirelessly to get the organization stabilized and back on track. Currently, we are comprised of five dedicated board members tasked with ensuring the organization meets the requirements of maintaining the important Keep America Beautiful affiliate status.

In April, KRB held a successful “Great American Clean-up” and we are planning the “Toss No Mas” clean-up in October. Toss No Mas is a statewide litter-free campaign sponsored by the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful, which is a program of the New Mexico Tourism Department.
For both of these annual community events, and many others, KRB provides trash bags, gloves and other cleanup supplies to individuals and organizations who do their part to help keep Roswell beautiful.
KRB does not have grant funding for this fiscal year. The board is looking into new avenues to keep the organization viable. For updates on our events, you can follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/keeproswellbeautiful.
