WESST held its second annual Go Latinas Conference Aug. 12. Thank you to all who made it a successful event to reach over 75 attendees.

Roswell community, thank you for spending part of your Saturday with us. Thank you to the RDR for covering our event and writing a very nice article highlighting some of the speeches.
Our continued appreciation and thanks go to Bobby Villegas for all of his support, both financial and in promoting the event to the community through his radio program. Mr. Villegas allowed us to hold the event at the S.O.Y. MARIACHI building, enabling us to feed the huge crowd (thank you Los Cerritos) and have an area set up to highlight small businesses in Roswell.
And, thanks to the Las Chismosas (Irene Villegas) who served lunch. Many thanks to John Jerge who donated our continental breakfast and a very large cake with our Go Latinas logo. Mi Casita graciously supplied a coffee bar. And once again, a big thank you to Socorro Blanco for making the most amazing and delectable biscochitos for each table.
Susie Fresquez did an amazing job with the flowers. Each table had a beautiful fresh bouquet of roses — what woman doesn’t like roses?

All who attended were encouraged by our speakers who shared their stories with each of us and provided encouragement and direction. Many thanks go to John Garcia, Mireya Trujillo, Susie Roe, Dora Paz, Buffie Ann Saavedra and Viridiana León.
In support of our mission at WESST to help people start or grow their business, we invited small businesses in our community to set up tables throughout the building to share their wares or provide information on their programs. We learned about homeowners and automobile insurance, juicing and supplements, topical pain products, jewelry, SL Start, SBA, ENMU-R and many more. Thank you especially to each person who donated door prizes because a lot of women went home happy with something special.
Lastly, I want to thank Veronica Arias, WESST’s program coordinator, along with those who volunteered alongside of her. Everyone’s efforts made this event fun, informative, motivational, encouraging and successful.
Many thanks to the representatives from the SBA, John Garcia, Alice Mora and Mary Drobot, who drove down from Albuquerque to support the event, as well as the president of WESST, Agnes Noonan. Having the statewide support and participation was appreciated by each attendee.
