Mildred “Millie” Albert Fitzgerald, 82, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully in her home on August 15, 2017.
Millie was born on June 15, 1935 in Roswell, New Mexico to John and Faye Albert. She was the youngest of three daughters. Millie and her sisters, Joanne and Jeanne, were very close, and being the “baby” of the three, Millie always knew she was protected.
After graduating from Roswell High School (Go Coyotes!) in 1954, Millie attended the University of New Mexico (Go Lobos!) and obtained her undergraduate degree. She then moved to San Diego and attended San Diego State University (Go Aztecs!) where she earned her master’s degree.
Millie met and married James W. Fitzgerald, and in 1969 they adopted their only child, Michael Charles Fitzgerald.
Millie had a long career as a teacher, and her fondest memories were her stints at Monte Vista High School (Go Monarchs!) and Granite Hills High School (Go Eagles!) located in the east county of San Diego.
To put it simply, Millie was an avid reader. She loved her books! She also enjoyed camping and taking walks with her friends, and cooking elaborate Sunday brunches when it was her turn to host.
Millie was loved by her son, Mike Fitzgerald, daughter-in-law, Tracey Fitzgerald, cherished granddaughter, Mikaela Silva, and the extended Seattle family; niece, Karen McCain, and husband, Leland McCain, and great nieces, Marissa King and Michelle Strahan; dear friends, Jeton and Ernest Luna, Mary Wylie, Elaine and Bob Ayres, Lynn and Mike Mousseau, Judy Davis, Karen and Dave Lewis, and the wonderful Lewis family; as well as her caring neighbors that always looked out for her wellbeing.
Graveside services will be held at South Park Cemetery, 3101 S. Main Street, Roswell, New Mexico 88203, on Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m.
