The NMMI Colt soccer team took on the Lovington Wildcats Tuesday afternoon in Lovington and came out victorious with a score of 2-1.
Luis Tzintzum had one heck of a game, scoring both NMMI goals.
Tzintzum’s first goal came late in the first half to put the Colts up 1-0 heading into halftime.
With 14 minutes remaining in the second half, Lovington tied it up 1-1 with little time to spare in regulation, but Tzintzum had other plans.
With five minutes remaining, Obed Able set up Tzintzum with a beautiful pass, which allowed him to see his second goal of the day sink into the back of the net.
This momentum allowed the Colts to hold off a late surge from the Wildcats to earn the win 2-1.
Despite Tzintzum’s two goals, he was not the player of the game according to head coach John Barbour.
“Alan Varela had 18 saves and really carried us throughout the game. He might be a freshman on paper, but he plays like a senior,” said Barbour.
The Colts will take on Lovington in the Coyote Classic on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
