The Alamogordo Lady Tigers came into Coyote Den with upset on their minds. They forced Roswell into errors and led the undefeated Roswell Lady Coyotes 15-10 in the second set.

Roswell coach Heather Baca called a timeout to settle her players down. During the break, her players stood in a circle with their arms around each other, and smiled.
While receiving their instructions from Baca, and with the music blaring, the players seemed to relax, bobbing their heads to Jamie Foxx’s “Gold Digger.”
As soon as they returned to the court, the Lady Coyotes took control and stormed back in straight sets to defeat the Lady Tigers, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 on Tuesday night to stay undefeated.
“We still have lots of work to do,” Baca said. “Especially in our defensive positions, tonight was sloppy.”
Roswell (3-0) has spent the season working on ball control, which Baca thinks is the most important part of the game for her team. Several players came up big for the Coyotes; Kaitlyn Holl had 12 kills to lead the team. Alex Gonzalez and Cheyenne Martinez each contributed with eight.

Team center Nayelli Morales led the team with 24 assists. Jalen Baca had seven digs; Holl contributed six and Morales added five.
“Right now, we’re working really hard to get all six seniors time on the court,” Baca said. “Some are fighting for positions. We’re seeing some great leadership from them. These are the most seniors I’ve ever had in my six years here.”
The goals don’t change with a new class of seniors, every year Baca expects her team to contend for a Blue Trophy.
“This year’s team may surprise some people,” Baca said, “but we expect to play for a state championship.”
Expectations are high after making it to the final four last season. The Coyotes fell to eventual champion St. Pius X in three sets.
Roswell will play in the Sweet 16 Tournament in Las Cruces at 7 p.m. on Friday.
