Roswell Destroyers build upon donations for Harvey victims

A local women’s semiprofessional football team is contributing to the mass amount of local support for the Texas flood victims affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Megan Patterson, a member of the Roswell Destroyers, said the organization is looking for donations. Patterson said financial contributions would be used to purchase non-perishable and hygienic items, bottled water, as well as clothes for all ages for those impacted.
While the team originally intended to send players to Houston as a means to help with relief effort, Patterson said this is an impossibility.

“We truly wanted to, (but we) just don’t have the funds to travel,” she said. “However, we are working with several people who are still going in the community and are donating the items to them that people have given us.”
The donations will be given to Amy Bishop and Jim Marling.
Marling previously announced his weeklong donation drive with a trailer in front of the North Main Street Farmers Country Market. Since then, both the original and a second trailer have been filled.
Patterson said she will be taking donations through Saturday at 4710 North Montana Ave.
