Melville Roland Jr., 83, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away in Lubbock, TX, on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. A service will be held at a later date. On December 22, 1933, Melville was born to Melville W. Roland Sr. and Lillie Johnson Roland in La Crosse, WI. Melville grew up in Sheldon, Minnesota. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy SHCS. After 20 years of service, Melville returned from Naval Service, which he truly loved, with an Honorable Discharge and several medals. His marriage to Marlys Jensen sadly ended by her death in 1999. Then he married the love of his life, Nora Bolton Roland, on January 10, 2005, in Roswell, NM. Melville was a member of Lutheran Church, VFW and Fleet Reserve. Playing slot machines was one of his all-time favorites. Melville enjoyed traveling with his family. He was a loving and caring person who loved all his family. Talking to other Veterans was something Melville really enjoyed. Melville will be greatly missed and the memories he made with his family will forever remain in their hearts.
Surviving to cherish Melville’s memory are his loving wife, Nora Mobley Roland; son, Randy Roland; daughters: Sharon Clark (Barry), Gail Merritt (Kim); stepson, Michael Mobley; stepdaughters: Teresa Barncastle (Pat), Debra Worley; grandchildren: Nathan Merritt (Ashley), Cale Merritt, Megan Allen (Brent), Nicole Heasley (Tommy), Justin Bjergum; great-grandchildren: Ani Merritt, Camden Allen, Dylan Palmer, Kristopher Palmer, and one on the way; 13 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceding Melville in death were parents: Melville W. Roland Sr. and Lillie Johnson Roland; grandparents: James Roland and Anna Roland; sisters: Doris Johnson, Shirley Skadson, Florence Morrison, Marcella Romie; and precious pet, Kelly Mae.
