On Friday the NMMI Colt soccer team had their first game out of three in the Roswell Coyote Classic.
Despite playing Lovington earlier in the week, the Colts took care of business and opened tournament play with a win.
It was a scoreless games heading into penalty kicks, but the Colts would prevail, making four shots in a row to take the game and their second win over Lovington this week.
The Colts would advance to the second round and take on Capitol High School in Santa Fe.
Despite playing their best game of the year, the Colts lost 1-0.
“Every game was better than the last and I am really proud of our guys for the fight and determination that they put in to try and make a comeback, “said Coach John Barbour.
Even though the Colts lost early Saturday morning, they still had one game remaining against the Roswell Coyotes.
The Coyotes struck first by scoring a goal with 15 minutes to go in the first half.
NMMI would answer with a score of their own early in the second half, but went on to surrender the go ahead, eventual game winning, goal late in the second half.
“We had opportunities to win the game, but we were unsuccessful. When we have those opportunities, we need to put them in the net,” Barbour said.
The Colts will take on the Clovis Wildcats Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. on the NMMI campus.
