Richard Bryon Waltrip, 63, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at his home in Roswell, NM. A service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 501 N. Sycamore, officiated by Bryan James. On November 25, 1953, Thanksgiving Day, Richard was born to Arthur Joe Waltrip and June Mullins Waltrip in Corpus Christi, Texas. A Veteran, Richard served in the Viet Nam War. He was a Master Carpenter, apprenticed from three generations of wood workers. He was known around New Mexico for his work with new constructions, historical renovations in Lincoln, New Mexico, and various refurbishing of businesses and residences. Anyone who knew Rick, knew his honesty, the hardworking side of him, but mostly for his humor. He was a devoted father and friend. Richard also loved coaching youth sports, fishing, and hunting. He will be missed by all.
Those left to cherish Richard’s memory are his two sons: Brandon Blake Waltrip of Casper, WY, Juston Bryon Waltrip of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren: Araya Ann Waltrip, Mallory Brooke Waltrip, Gaige Bryon Waltrip, Macie Grace Waltrip, Zuri Ann Waltrip, Bella Nicole Jones; two sisters: Denice Hutinson of Mansfield, TX, Kathy Pickering and husband, Elton of Singer, LA; numerous nieces and nephews; Don Hollingsworth, Jorge Hollingsworth, Rachel Brown, Kirsten Pickering, Travis Hutchinson and Fred Hutchinson, and loving pets: Gizmo and Popeye.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents: Art Waltrip and June Waltrip; grandparents: Garrett and Exa Waltrip, Margaret and Harry Whitley; and loving pets: Rocky and Pepper.
Those chosen as honorary pallbearers are: George Hollingsworth, Don Hollingsworth, Chris Sifuentes, Justin Sweatfield, Neal Burkhart, Richard Sandoval, John Villareal, and close friend Kristy Velasco.
Pallbearers will be: Juston Waltrip, Brandon Waltrip, Pete Hebert, Bob White, Isaac Hicks and Fernando Urquides.
