Construction of a walking path project through the historic town of Lincoln has started.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation stated in a news release that the path is being built to improve mobility through the town for non-drivers. Lincoln is about 57 miles northwest of Roswell.
As part of the construction, natural pave material will be lined along both sides of the U.S. 380 right-of-way through the town of Lincoln for approximately one mile. The natural pave pathway will preserve the natural and scenic character of the community.

Work will also include removal of the existing asphalt walking path, construction of drive pads, removal and resetting of traffic signs, minor drainage improvement and permanent striping.
Funding of the $900,000 project has been provided by a State Transportation Improvement Project. The walking path is expected to be complete early fall, weather permitting.
