Betty E. Whicker, 86, a woman of great faith, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 3, 2017. Viewing will be Wednesday morning, September 6, 2017, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 115 West 11th St., Roswell, NM at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. A traditional Funeral Service will immediately follow at 10 a.m., also at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Interment will be at Gen. Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery, Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. A tribute of Betty’s life may be found at andersonbethany.com where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for her family.
Betty was born to Claude and Mozell (Jordan) Smith on December 10, 1935, in Roswell, NM. After graduating from high school, she attended Baptist Bible College. On July 27, 1956, she married Onsy Whicker, who would later become the pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Pastor’s wife, mother, church assistant and missionary, Betty lived a life of service to God and to others.
Loved ones surviving to cherish the memory of Betty are her husband, Onsy; sons: Steve, Randy and Ken Whicker; grandchildren: Starla Whicker, Justin Whicker, Joshua Whicker, Heather Whicker and Jared Whicker; brothers: Robert and Charles Smith; sisters: Janice Harrington and Joyce Day; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceding Betty in death were her daughter, Starla Ruth Whicker; grandson, Jeremy Stephen Whicker; father and mother: Claude and Mozell Smith; grandparents: S.C. and Mary Smith; Dr D.T. and Lilie Jordan.
