Billy Dacus Parker died August 31, 2017 from Alzheimer’s, Billy was born June 12, 1937 in Hagerman, NM to Dacus Burton and Willie Faye Parker. Billy grew up in Hagerman and graduated from there in 1955. He was very active in 4-H and FFA, also in basketball and track. In 1954, he won state in track. He loved to play keno. He loved taking his sons hunting and fishing. He joined the NAVY in 1956 and was stationed abroad the USS Intrepid. In 1958, he married Betty Sue Troublefield, also of Hagerman. By then he was stationed abroad the U.S.S Independence. When his service was completed, they moved back to Hagerman and he started farming.
Their first son Michael was born in 1963 and Mark was born in 1966.
Billy took college courses part time while farming and finally got his degree in 1971. He moved the family to Las Cruces and took a job at La Tuna Federal Prison in Anthony, TX. He retired from there after 20 years of service.
Billy is survived by his wife Betty of 58 years, son Michael (Denise), son Mark (Arlene), grandchildren Alan, Ashley, Heather, Healey, and Kayla.
He is also survived by one sister, Jeannie Gibson (Colorado, Springs) two brothers, Bob Parker (Diane), Dolf Nation (Cynthia) also several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to; The Alzheimer’s Association 125 N. Main, suite 103- PO Box 15159 (88004) Las Cruces, NM.
Graveside services will be held at Hagerman, NM cemetery at 1 p.m., September 8, 2017.
Pallbearers are: Tom Lockridge, Wes Miller, Johnny Davis, Jimmy Davis, Jeff Woolwine, and Craig Pilley.
Honorary pallbearers — Arnold Bustillos, Don Bannister, Bones Mullins.
