NMMI cadet admitted to academy

New Mexico Military Institute cadet Abigail Valadez of Albuquerque, third from right, holds the Letter of Authorization presented to her this week in front of the NMMI corps of cadets by Rear Adm. James E. Rendon, second from left. Rendon is superintendent of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. The letter indicates that Valadez has been accepted into the academy, the first NMMI student to be going to academy in at least five years. Shown in the photo with Valadez are, from left, Senior Chief Petty Officer Charles Scott, director of the NMMI Service Academy Preparatory Program; Rendon; Lt. Marvi Rivera, U.S. Coast Guard Office of Admissions; Brig. Gen. Douglas Murray, NMMI dean of Academics; and Capt. Bob McKenna, director of Admissions with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
