Doris Aileen McCarter passed away quietly on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Pecos Valley Rehabilitation Center in Roswell, New Mexico. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 10 a.m., where Doris will be laid to rest next to her love. On September 11, 1928, Doris was born to Carlton M. Poe and Jewell Ryan in Roswell, New Mexico. After graduating from San Diego High School in 1946, Doris began working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company and continued to work for them for over 30 years before retiring. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was also a member of the American Philatelic Society since 1988. If you knew Doris, you knew of her love for animals, especially dogs and cats. She always had a furry friend by her side. Her most recent furry friends were Al Pal and Rosie O.
Those left to cherish Doris’ memory are her two sisters: Bettie Kerr of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Edna Daggett of Port Lavaca, Texas; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Eli Frank (Bud) McCarter Jr; parents: Jewell Ollie Killgo and Carleton Monroe Poe; and niece, Monetta Shaw.
