The Roswell Police Department SWAT team is offering two more training sessions today to help both business employees and citizens be better prepared during an active shooter situation.

The RPD’s public information officer, Todd Wildermuth, said while city employees will be in attendance of the presentation, participation from the public is also encouraged.

Each presentation will be at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center at 912 N. Main St. at 9 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Each demonstration is expected to last between one and two hours.

Wildermuth said the presentations were set up following the Clovis library shooting that occurred Aug. 28, when a 16-year-old fatally shot two Clovis-Carver Public Library employees.

“RPD is also reviewing security measures and emergency plans at city buildings to ensure proper preparation is in place for active shooter events,” Wildermuth said. “In addition, any business that would like RPD to do an assessment of its facility and offer guidance in preparing an emergency action plan can contact the police department at 575-624-6770 and speak to Commander Fil Gonzales.”
