New Mexico Military Institute has been ranked as the second best value among U.S. community colleges by AffordableColleges.com.

The AffordableColleges.com 2017 rankings can be viewed online. The educational data website examines statistics from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), run by the U.S. Department of Education. Each college receives scores based on such factors as tuition, graduation rates, retention rates, percentage of students receiving financial aid and loan default rates.

NMMI received a 8.02 score out of a possible 10. The college ranked No. 1, Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, received a 8.07 score.

According to NMMI news release, tuition and fees for its nearly 830 cadets cover education, room, four meals a day, a laptop computer, a 24-hour infirmary and numerous amenities, resulting in an economical cost of living.

“Tuition aside, NMMI offers a distinctive and quality-driven leadership program in a military regimen atmosphere,” said Gen. Jerry Grizzle, NMMI superintendent. “The campus offers high school and college curriculum, in addition to an extensive ROTC and Prep Program. Some of our academically focused high school cadets have focused on achieving their (associate’s) degree, in addition to their high school diploma, and found themselves ahead of the education journey at the completion of 12th grade.”
