Around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, the Roswell Police Department and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the 1500 block of Pontiac Drive in Roswell in reference to a reported stabbing involving a meat cleaver.

According to the RPD’s public information officer, Todd Wildermuth, the incident began with an argument between a man and woman.

“Then, a couple members of the woman’s family allegedly attacked the man with a meat cleaver and golf club,” Wildermuth said. “The man suffered a stab or cut wound on his arm and was transported to a hospital.”

The victim’s grandmother, Pepa Robinson-Rashad, said her grandson, 26-year-old Iverson Smith, had also sustained injuries to his back.

Smith was sent by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Alejandro Gonzales, seen sitting on the ground with RPD officers above him, was placed in handcuffs during the the investigation.

Police said the victim is expected to be OK, and according to initial records with the RPD, there have been no indications of any arrests following the incident.

Robinson-Rashad added Tuesday evening that the victim is OK, and is now at his home.

(Smith) has a daughter with (Gonzales’) daughter, and another baby on the way,” she explained. “I hope they work it out for the children sake.”
