The case of a found body Sunday morning in North Artesia is being investigated as a homicide, the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office said.

“We treat every unattended death – which is a death that’s not assisted by a doctor, physician, medical professional,” explained ECSO Lt. Matt Hutchinson. “That line, we treat all of those as homicides.

“I’m not saying that this is one, I’m just saying my detectives for the sheriff’s office, they will investigate those likely homicides to make sure that we understand everything that occurred.”

Hutchinson said there are currently too many uncertainties preventing the office from releasing an updated statement to the public.

“We’ve got a good understanding of what occurred out there,” Hutchinson said. “But, nothing that we want to go out and go to the media, you know, out of respect for the family.”
