To celebrate the Roswell Jazz Festival, which is coming up Oct. 18-22, the downtown merchants have chosen “Jazz It Up!” as the theme for October’s First Friday. There will be lots of “jazzy” specials for shoppers. We also have some unique entertainment planned.

Stop by Reischman Park, 308 N. Main St., from 5 to 8 p.m. to hear talented musicians Khai French and Jani Kosturski.

Do you like ice cream? If yes, then try to out eat other competitors at one of two free ice cream eating contests at Reischman Park at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m., sponsored by Albertsons Market. Winners will receive a free Chile Cheese Festival T-Shirt, losers will have a tummy full of ice cream.

There also will be a group of award winning flag wavers who are here from Italy. Sbandieratori del Niballo will do two flag throwing/waving demonstrations on the sidewalk area across the street from the Chaves County Courthouse, or the 400 N. Main St. area. They will do one demonstration at 6 and one at 7 p.m. with colorful costumes, drummers and amazing skill at choreographed flag waving/throwing. Come watch, then you can visit our downtown shops to take advantage of great specials, enter an ice cream eating contest, listen to some awesome music, and enjoy a yummy meal at one of our great downtown restaurants.
