Betty Burnes, a longtime resident of the Roswell area, passed away Thursday the 5th of October.

Betty was found to have passed during the night prior to starting her physical therapy at Mission Arch Care Center.  She was relocated to the facility per doctor’s orders after undergoing a triple bypass procedure on the 23rd of September at UMC in Lubbock, Texas.

She was born April 16th of 1957 in Roswell, New Mexico. Betty spent most of her days as caregiver looking after residents of Chaves County. She spent her free time reading, crocheting and quilting blankets for her many children and grandchildren, and working on puzzles with the grandchildren.  She loved cooking and socializing with friends and family. She was an easy person to get along with but if she didn’t care for you, it was no secret.  She thought the world of her staff at the Dialysis Center. She had a smile that could light up a room.

Betty was preceded in death by mother Wanda Crenshaw-Hopper, and father G. C. Hopper, sister Loneta West, and husband Monroe Burnes.

Betty was survived by her sons and daughters, Coy Hopper, Candace Burnes and husband Tommy, Jason Evans and wife Toni, Deanna Elliott and husband Daniel, Lester Burnes and wife Marie, Liz Rochelle and huband Danny, Debbie Erwin, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren which she loved dearly. Brothers and sisters, Rita Kay Fagen, George Hopper, Sam Hopper, Kenneth Hopper, Mary Berthold, Debbie Stone, and Margaret Archuleta.

Anderson-Bethany has been entrusted with arrangements as per Betty’s wishes.

A memorial service for Betty will be held at Sierra Vol. Fire Department Station 1, 603 S. Brown Rd., Roswell, NM 88203 on Oct. 9th at 4 p.m. Post service reception to be held after services.
