The New Mexico Department of Transportation will begin repair work to the Hondo Bridge in Lincoln County Monday.

Sometimes called the Alamo Canyon Bridge, the bridge is located on New Mexico State Road off U.S. 70 in Lincoln County southeast of Hondo.

The work is expected to be completed in November, weather permitting, the Transportation Department stated in a news release. Work includes the repair of the existing truss bridge using heat-straightening methods on specific structural components. Painting and recoating of the structure also will occur.

The bridge will close to vehicle traffic next week Monday through Friday, from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To accommodate local traffic during the bridge closure times, Lincoln County is building a temporary bridge just to the west of the main structure. Typically about 165 vehicles cross the Truss Hondo Bridge daily.
