A school bookkeeper in Lea County was arrested Friday on charges of embezzlement and fraudulent use of a credit card, both fourth degree felonies.

New Mexico State Police arrested Kristen McLean, 32, who was previously employed by the Eunice Public Schools.

After an initial inquiry was completed by the Eunice Public Schools, the district requested the NMSP for assistance.

McLean was contacted in an attempt to interview her regarding her knowledge of the allegations. On both accounts she did not show up, and would not return calls or messages, according to police.

An officer proceeded with an investigation, and obtained an arrest warrant for McLean based on the information provided from the school district. According to the criminal complaint, the total amount is $1,090.
