Enjoy historical pictures and stories

I send you congratulations.

I opened the newspaper, saw a great picture of a building, the Gilkeson Hotel, a part of Roswell’s past. I remember it well as each morning from my apartment on South Lea Avenue, I walked by the hotel on my way to work at the War Manpower commission in City Hall in ’43/’44.

My soon-to-be husband, PFC Ruffus E. Lee, was wounded in Italy and sent back to the states to recuperate at Bruns General Hospital in Santa Fe. He would get a pass to come home on the bus, and enjoyed visiting with Tode Brenneman at his business. Tode enjoyed hearing the stories as two of his buddies, Col. Purdy and John Allen Phinizy were the commanding officers of his unit, 804th Tank Destroyer Btn. They were still on active duty headed for Rome.

I do enjoy the historical stories and pictures.

Imogene Lee
