Lady Dogs remain undefeated at home

ARTESIA — The Artesia High School volleyball team rolled a seven in their final regular season home game against Lovington High School Thursday night.

The Lady Dogs (17-1, 4-0) defeated the Lady Cats (9-10, 0-4) 3-1 at Bulldog Pit. Artesia has been perfect at home this season.

The Lady Dogs took the first game 25-12. With the score tied early in the contest, Artesia was able to gain the upper hand thanks to some hot serves from senior Alexa Riggs, sophomore Lou Harrison, senior Bailey Pearce and junior Kyra Gonzales.

The Lady Cats had the upper hand in the second game winning 25-22.

Artesia would storm back taking the third frame 25-10. Artesia had an early 4-0 lead before Lovington scored their first point.

Serves from Riggs, senior Mattie McCombs, junior Kersie Beltran and senior Christa Bratcher helped the home team in the win.

The fourth game was close for a spell until Artesia’s Beltran, senior Stacia Martinez and junior Malori McSpadden fired more scorching serves at the opposition.

“We came out strong,” said Artesia head coach Allen Williams.

Artesia has two games left in the regular season and both will be played in Roswell.

Tuesday the Lady Dogs travel to Ground Zero to take on Goddard at 6:30 p.m. and then on Thursday Artesia will be at the Coyote Den to take on Roswell at 6:30 p.m.

Artesia defeated Roswell on Tuesday night 3-2 and Goddard 3-0 on Oct. 12.
