NMMI Homecoming festivities begin today


The schedule for the New Mexico Military Institute’s homecoming is set to welcome cadets – past and present.

This morning, registration will begin for alumni members of NMMI at the J. Ross Thomas Memorial Building from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A golf tournament for the Lefty Stecklein Scholarship will also be taking place at the military institute’s golf course at 1 p.m.

Later Thursday night, Silver Taps will begin at 7 p.m., which is a traditional event held at the Hagerman Barracks to honor alumni members who have passed away over the past year. Each candle that is held by a cadet represents a life.

Following Silver Taps, a reception will be held for alumni members and their guests, however no cadets or people under the age of 21 are allowed.

Registration will continue Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with an alumni luncheon and hall of fame induction taking place the institute’s civic center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., a baseball game between alumni and the Broncos will take place at the NMMI baseball field.

At 7 p.m., the Alumni Love Feast will continue through 11 p.m. During the same time, at 7 p.m., a football game will take place, featuring the Colts and Hope Christian.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, a change of flame guard will take place at Bronco Plaza. A visitation of the barracks for alumni and guests will be given at 9:15 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., a class march and homecoming parade honoring alumni will take place on Stapp Field.
