Roswell native Brig. Gen. Fermin A. Rubio, assistant adjutant general for air and commander of the New Mexico Air National Guard, was recognized for his service at a retirement ceremony at Kirtland Air Force Base Saturday.
Rubio, a 1974 graduate of Roswell High School, served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 1994 as a naval judge advocate after graduating from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1986. Rubio affiliated with the U.S. Naval Reserve and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1997. He joined the New Mexico Air National Guard in 2006, serving as the state judge advocate until 2015.
He is the son of Carmen Carrillo of Roswell and Secundino Rubio of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Rubio now resides in Las Cruces.
