A European tradition that is known and loved overseas is coming to Roswell’s Eastern New Mexico State Fairground’s Bob Crosby Arena this weekend. Riding master Rene Gasser will be bringing his Gala of the Royal Horses tour for the first time to our area Saturday and Sunday.

Gasser’s family has been riding horses for seven generations, starting in the military with the cavalry, and he translated that tradition into a tour that can bring the beloved European event around the world.

“Not many people can travel and see these things, so we wanted to bring it to them,” Gasser said. “People are loving being able to see what they only see on TV.”

The Gala of the Royal Horses has been touring the United States, visiting over 200 cities and inspiring awe in residents across the country.

“So far, we have had great success and people are very appreciative of the visits,” said Gasser.

Roswell will get to experience this event at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Audience members can expect to see some of the most celebrated horses in history throughout the performance, including Lipizzaner Stallions, The Spanish Andalusian, Friesian, Arabic breeds and the Quarter Horse.

Throughout the show, the audience will get to experience the majesty of these creatures, as well as learn about their history.

“One minute you’re in Vienna, one minute you’re in Spain,” Gasser said of the performances. The display is meant to take the audience on a journey and teach the history of the horses.

Tickets for the event are available at www.monumentalevents.com or by phone at 800-626-8497. Tickets will be available at the door the days of the show, one hour prior to start time.
