The Artesia Police Department is asking citizens to be aware of impaired driving issues. During the month of November, the APD will be focusing on crimes such as DWI, open container, seatbelt and child restraint use and texting while driving.

“They will do this by using sobriety checkpoints, directed enforcement efforts and other special operations,” said APD commander, Lindell Smith. “Please remember if you drink, do not drive.”

In addition, the department requests that if a citizen sees any DWI-related types of crimes occurring, or has reason to believe they are occurring, to notify authorities.

“Please keep yourselves and other people safe by making good choices,” Smith said. “And (by) reporting possible drunk drivers.”
