Carlsbad man dies in head-on collision Tuesday

CARLSBAD — State police say a 21-year-old Carlsbad man died Tuesday around 8:38 a.m. in a head-on collision on U.S. 285.

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned a 2015 Ford 350 pick-up was traveling north on U.S. 285 when it crossed into oncoming southbound traffic colliding with a 2018 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer.

The driver of the Ford truck, Jacob Balderrama, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the crash.

This crash is still under investigation with no further information available.
