On November 27, 1950, John was born to Ramon Orquiz and Elisa De La Rosa Orquiz in Artesia, NM, who have preceded him in death.  He was a resident of Roswell, NM since 1980. John was the type of person you could easily talk to and he would really listen and give good advice. His passion was playing the drums, but he could pick up any instrument and play it. John loved music, especially the oldies.

John and his wife were way ahead of internet online dating. On October of 1976, John was working for KRSY Radio Station as a DJ. Denise called the radio station to find out about a song and John answered the phone. It turns out, she liked his voice and he liked hers. So, to get to know each other better, they agreed not to meet face to face until the spring of 1977. They talked on the phone every day until they finally met in person and they had been together ever since for 40 years. John worked for KRSY and KBCQ Radio Stations in Roswell, NM, and KKAT Radio Station in Carlsbad, NM, as a DJ. He went to college and received three bachelor’s degrees and wanted to go back to get his master’s degree. John was a Pastor for Victory Chapel Ministries. He was working for Roswell Job Corps and Roswell Refuge at the time of his passing. John was a huge Denver Broncos fan and when they were playing, you knew it was time to start up the BBQ grill. He was a member of the Native American group at Job Corps and really loved taking the group to the Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, NM.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Orquiz; and cousin, who was also his best friend, David De La Rosa.
