Raymond Anaya, 73, went to be with his Heavenly Father, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Raymond passed away in the arms of his beloved wife Lynda, surrounded by their five sons. Raymond was born to Rachel and Raymond Analla, July 31, 1944 in Roswell, NM.
The oldest of seven brothers, Raymond was one of Roswell’s most popular Golden Gloves Boxer, earning the nickname “The Bronze Bomber”. Raymond Anaya, a pillar of the Roswell boxing dynasty, started his boxing career back in 1956 when he was 12 years old, for the Ave Maria team. By 1969, Anaya, along with two of his brothers, Ralph and Rennie all won NM State Championship titles. Another oddity about the three brothers all winning titles, was the fact they all scored knockouts. Raymond’s father Raymond, along with Coach Willie Hall, trained Raymond along with his six brothers, who became known as the “Magnificent Seven”. Raymond is a nine time Golden Gloves Champion for New Mexico. “The Bronze Bomber” along with his brothers won a total of 27 NM Golden Glove Championships: Raymond 9, Carlos 2, Rennie 3, Ralph 3, John 5, William 2, and Troy 3. The Anaya brothers hold the record for the most Golden Glove Championships for New Mexico to date. Raymond as well as his brothers have their names in the Roswell Boxing Hall of Fame and the New Mexico Boxing Hall of Fame.
Raymond was a graduate of Roswell High School class of 1962 and earned his college degree from Eastern NM University, Portales. Raymond married Lynda Schneider Davis in 1982 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He worked for Safeway Grocery Stores for 25 years and then for the State of New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, retiring as Audit Supervisor for the State of NM after 25 years. Raymond was proud of the fact he had two career jobs in his lifetime. After retirement, Raymond pursued his dream along with his wife Lynda of opening their own Consulting and Tax business. “Anaya Gross Receipts Consulting and Tax Services, LLC” was very successful with the motto “Come to the Anaya Corner for Respect and Star Treatment”. The business won the “Hispano Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year” in 2010. Raymond was on the Salvation Army Board, Job Corp, and LULAC past President. He also served as the Vice President and Treasurer of LULAC. Raymond taught classes on CRS-1 taxes. He also coached and trained Roswell youth in boxing. Raymond coached his sons’ teams in youth football, baseball and soccer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years Lynda; Their five sons Isaac, Desmond, David, Raymond, John and step-son Wesley Davis; Brothers Carlos and wife Sylvia Anaya, and William Analla, Mother-in-law Bernice Schneider, Sister-in-law Bonny Schneider, Brother-in-law Kurt Schneider. Also many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are Melvin and Andriana Anaya.
Preceding Raymond in death are his parents, Raymond and Rachel Analla, Brothers Rennie, Ralph, John and Troy. Also his nephew Jarred Analla.
Raymond was also very proud of his sons, and passed on his sacred punch to them while training them in the back of his business, just so they could defend themselves. His pride and joy was watching his sons play sports, especially football. He never missed a game. Saturday night fights, listening to Luis Miguel and “Golden Oldies” were some of his favorite past times. Raymond was a most giving man, kind, gentle and soft-spoken and certainly a “listener”. He was the best father and husband anyone could ask for, our rock in tough times and our joy in happy times. A very religious man, he prayed everyday for those less fortunate. He will be in our hearts forever.
“The greatest truths are the simplest and so are the greatest men.”
