DEXTER — Four Dexter Demons (1-0) scored in double figures Tuesday night, downing the Ruidoso Warriors (0-1) 74-67 in their season opener.
Dexter head coach Arthur Cobos said David Miramontes was the leading scorer with 20-points. Jaime Chavira also scored in doubled figures with 16, Joseph Cobos and Sergio Ramirez had 10 a piece.
Nick Cobos came off the bench and scored 7 for the Demons.
“Miramontes made clutch free throws,” said Arthur Cobos.
The head coach also said Josh Romero was the leading scorer for Ruidoso with 40-points.
At the end of the opening quarter, the Warriors led 18-17. In the second period, Dexter got the upper hand leading 41-33 at the end of the first half.
In the second half Dexter was able to maintain the lead.
“We could get better from here,” said Cobos. He said that three players were out due to injuries.
“I’m excited,” he added. “There is so much room for improvement.”
The Demons hit the road Thursday through Saturday at the Melrose tournament. Dexter opens the tournament with a game against Escalante.
