The Chaves County School Employees Credit Union is most likely one of the smallest credit unions in Chaves County, nonetheless every year the tellers and employees come up with a creative way to do some fundraising to help the community. This year they chose to have a contest.

Each employee decorated their own little Christmas tree and the public gets to decide with their spare change who the winner is. The employee whose tree receives the highest total of change will choose the local charity that all the money collected will be donated to.

“My daughter had the idea,” Valarie Thomas said. “It’s fun and something different.”

Asked who did which tree, Heather Martinez said, “We’re not saying. It’s going to be fair.”

The trees will be up for voting until Dec. 22 at the CCSE Credit Union, 1401 N. Lea Ave.
