December holiday events kick off this weekend

Roswell’s December holiday events begin with First Friday Downtown Market facilitaed by the MainStreet Roswell.

The theme this year is “the reason for the season.” This evening event will have carolers, shopping specials, holiday activities, and treats at various locations. Live music from Rudy Wood will occur from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Reischman Park. More information and a full schedule can be found online at http://www.mainstreetroswell.org.

The Roswell Folklorico Dancers will be performing their free annual holiday shows staring this Saturday.

On Dec 2, there will be two performances. The first is at Brookdale Country Club East, 2725 N. Pennsylvania Ave. at 10 a.m. and the second is at Roswell Museum and Art Center in Bassett Auditorium, 400 N. Pennsylvania Ave. at 5:30 p.m.

On Dec. 16, the folklorico dancers will perform at the Roswell Mall by Stage at 2 p.m. For this performance, it is recommended those attending this performance bring their own chairs because of limited places to sit.

The Roswell Museum and Art Center’s holiday open house will be filled with musical performances, planetarium shows, art-making, gallery talks and warm holiday refreshments. The public is invited to attend this free event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event will also feature a “Shrinky Dink” ornament-making activity, museum member discounts in the Museum Store, and hot cocoa and marshmallow roasting in the courtyard.

5-5:30 p.m.: Gallery Talk by Museum Curator Sara Woodbury: Pennsylvania Impressionists

5:30-6 p.m.: Roswell Folklorico Dancers

5:30-6:30 p.m.: Holiday Storybooks and Songs with Mrs. Claus and her Stargazer Helpers

5:30-6 p.m. and 6:30-7 p.m.: Planetarium Shows (free admission)

6-6:30 p.m.: Gallery Talk by Roswell Artist in Residence Rachel Grobstein: “These dreams go on when I close my eyes”

6:30-7:15 p.m.: Student Piano Recital by the Lively Piano Group

6:30-7 p.m.: Roswell Flute Ensemble
